North Coast Rotary thanks the Avon School Administration – Ben Hodge, Kristina Buller, and Rob Woods; the Avon Music Boosters; and Avon students, families and friends for your support at North Coast Rotary’s Great Pizza Bake-Off!

Everyone seemed to enjoy the varied pizza samples from Cafe Piccolo, Donatos, D’Tutanelli’s,  Marco’s, Masters, Neechi’s and Pizza Hut and especially the generously donated donuts from Peace, Love and Little Donuts.

Funds raised will be used for multiple youth initiatives including leadership seminars, speech and writing contests, international youth exchange, scholarships and other programs.

North Coast Rotary will also have, on-hand, a collection trailer that is used for collecting used medical equipment and supplies. The equipment and supplies collected are ultimately sent to needy countries throughout the world. As an example, if you have an old walker, or a pair of crutches, or even the likes of a no-longer used knee or ankle brace, please bring them to the Pizza Bake-Off. You will be doing a great service and you’ll likely clear something out of your closet that you’ve been meaning to get rid of anyways. Additionally, if you have something too large, to be dropped off (i.e. a hospital bed), alternate arrangements can be made to have the medical equipment picked up from your residence.

Come sample over 50 wines and enjoy gourmet appetizers on Saturday February 9th from 4 PM to 7 PM at Sprenger Towne Center, 500 Community Drive, Avon Lake, Ohio.    Net proceeds benefit the North Coast Rotary Foundation, supporting youth initiatives and local and regional projects.

New Meeting Times and Location

North Coast Rotary held its 2nd lunch meeting at the Wine Room giving Rotarians an opportunity to get together when the morning meeting schedule doesn’t work!! joined Rotarians in a MESA bike ride through southwestern Ohio. Among other Rotary programs, Allen champions MESA (Medical Equipment Supplies Abroad) and its accomplishments throughout the world. Next lunch meeting will be September 25th at 12:15 pm.

State Senator Gayle Manning spoke to our club on August 21 with an update about happenings at the Statehouse, plus highlights from her 7.5 years as District 13 senator. She has focused  here attention in several areas – business growth and jobs, education – Manning is a retired elementary school teacher – transportation, and funding for capital improvements in Lorain County.  Senator Manning also spoke of her efforts to combat the opioid epidemic plaguing our communities.  She expressed her appreciation for all the Ohioans who have helped her understand their issues and shared their expertise in so many areas.

Farmers’ Market – CRS

Farmersmarket2018At CRS’s new location, Rotarians and friends unpacked and distributed fresh produce at the CRS Farmers’ Market.  The ripe watermelons, heads of lettuce, greens and zucchinis were welcomed by many clients. 

This is the 3rd Farmers’ Market that Rotarians have supported for Community Resource Services!

Rotarians, spouses and friends applauded as Past President John Crooks inducted Pete Sandrev as President for the 2018/2019 year.   Joe Matuscak was inducted as Vice President. Foundation Coordinator Bob Scott presented Pete with his first Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) award for contributions and service to Rotary.  District Governor Maris Brenner, and Assistant Governor Sandy Kaiser joined in celebrating the new officers and PHF recognition.  Officers also include Mary Crehore, Secretary and Treasurer Larry Calabrese.
