Celebrating the End of the ’23-’24 Rotary Year and Installation of Officers

Rotarians and guests enjoyed an evening at Emerald Event Center to celebrate the achievements of the past Rotary year, recognize outgoing President Joe Matuscak and Install the incoming President Cathy Pugh and her leadership team.

Joe Matuscak thanked everyone for joining us that evening and Rachel Reith and Pete NeCastro of Emerald Event Center for hosting.  He added that all four Mayors were invited and extended a special thank you to Village of Sheffield Mayor Bob Markovich who came.

Joe presented an overview of his past year/s.  He highlighted Rotary’s community partners including Ridge Cleaners, Lorain County Community College, Scott Latiolais, President Tri-C Westshore, Marilyn Zeidner with Music on a Mission, and the North Coast Chamber.  Joe noted how local media helps Rotary increase the impact of our projects and fundraisers and thanked the Morning Journal, Chronicle Telegram, Cleveland.com, Westlife, WEOL and WOBL for their support.

Joe swore-in the ’24 – ’25 President Cathy Pugh.

President Cathy Pugh swore-in the ’24 – ‘25 Officers Vice President and President Elect Kim Urig, Secretary Jamie Wise, Treasurer Lawrence Calabrese, Deputy Treasurer Jinnyn Tata and Foundation Coordinator Gina Eschke (not present).  Past President Joe Matuscak will also be a member of the Club Executive Board.  Members of the North Coast Rotary Foundation, Inc. Thank you Sprenger and CRS for donations to MESA

MESA – Medical Equipment and Supplies Abroad is a 501(c)3 organization formed in 1981 by the Rotary Clubs of Ohio District 6600.  North Coast has been supporting MESA with used but usable medical supplies, clothing, educational resources and more donated by our community members, donors from Community Resource Services, and local businesses and stored in a trailer made available by Rotarian Doug Maurer.  Sprenger Healthcare Towne Center also collected equipment and supplies, stored them locally and made them available for a collection day in August. At MESA’s warehouse in Fostoria, Ohio, donations are sorted, stored and subsequently into a shipping container destined for a port of a local rotary club for distribution. This year over 30 containers have been shipped including 12 to Ukraine.

Rotarians also provide financial support and participate in MESA’s annual bike ride fundraiser. This year cyclists rode through our service areas and Tri-C Westshore generously hosted North Coast Rotarians and the MESA bike riders for lunch.

North Coast Rotary will be continuing to collect used but usable medical supplies for MESA.

Rotary Visits Tri-C Westshore Campus

On Tri-C’s 60th anniversary, Rotarian and Tri-C Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Kris Walz and Campus President Scott Latiolais and other Campus leadership showed Rotarians the Westshore campus, first opened in 2011 and significantly expanded in 2019.  The naturally lit open areas, special Veterans Support lounge, newly opened food pantry and one-stop student support center complement the lecture hall, labs and training rooms to help students be successful on this campus.  New scholarship opportunities were also announced for students in Avon, Avon Lake and North Ridgeville.
