NWS Volunteers partner on Blankets for Beds Project

Over the past several months Rotary obtained hundreds of imperfect blankets vacuum sealed in bags of 5 – 8 blankets each.  They were donated by a Groveport, Ohio manufacturer.  New Westsider Club-Volunteers joined Rotarians on four different occasions to unpack, sort for cleaning, sewing or good for the animal shelter. All the immediately usable ones were rewrapped to be distributed to organizations helping those in need. Dozens of imperfect blankets required hours of additional sewing repair and again volunteers from New Westsiders accepted the challenge.

Sixty-five blankets were distributed at the Homeless Stand Down at Sacred Heart Church in South Lorain last week. “Thank you for the blankets, they were wonderful. All of them were gone before the end of the Stand Down!” wrote an organizer of the Lorain County Taskforce for the Homeless (it’s 10th annual event).

We couldn’t have done this without the help of New Westsider volunteers – Thank you!

Donation to CRS Easter Brunch Baskets Project

North Coast Rotarians supplied Coffee, Creamer, Pancake Mix and Cinnamon Rolls to Community Resource Services (CRS) for their Easter Brunch Basket project. (Thanks to Apples Market who significantly discounted our purchases!) CRS was able to assemble Easter Brunch baskets for 75 families in need, combining these with donations of eggs, bacon, syrup, Easter egg decorating kits, fruit cocktail, candy and Easter baskets from other organizations including New Westsiders. Several Rotarians and New Westsiders assisted CRS staff in organizing the donations. Families began picking up their Baskets at the beginning of April. (North Coast Rotary has long supported CRS whose mission is to diminish the effects of poverty in Avon and Avon Lake: https://www.aalcrs.org)

We Make a Difference~

In September, we received a certificate of appreciation from CRS, Community Resource Services (serving Avon and Avon Lake) and “thanks” from the Brookside Schools for our boxes and boxes of school supply donations for students in need – this initiative was in collaboration with New WestSiders and Avon Lake Kiwanis.

We also received a Thank You letter from Blessing House (a children’s crisis care center) for our financial contributions to their capital campaign of $1000, when leveraged with matching donations.
