Avon Lake Public Library Discovery Works – Grand Reopening

North Coast Rotary is proud to have financially supported the Avon Lake Public Library Discovery Works build. Treasurer Larry Calabrese and Secretary Jamie Wise enjoyed the preview event and said they were very impressed with the new exhibits! A big congratulations to the ALPL leadership, staff and Friends for this achievement.

Education and literacy has long been an area of focus for Rotary and our local libraries and schools have been the beneficiaries of our support.

In 2023, we worked with Avon Lake Public Library to rejuvenate their Story Book Trail. See more with the following link:

Great Pizza and Fun at ALHS Bake-Off in Support of Rotary’s Youth and Community Initiatives

North Coast Rotary thanks our community supporters, Avon Lake City Schools, Lorain County Community College, Avon Lake Public Library, First Federal of Lakewood, a host of sponsors and our pizzerias for a very successful fundraiser!

Rotarians, Interactors, Key Club, Emcees Jack Dibee and Joelle Magyar made the evening flow smoothly.  The pictures say it all. Thank you!

A Rejuvenated Story Book Trail in Avon Lake

The eight-year-old book displays were deteriorating at the Avon Lake Public Library Story Book Trail and North Coast Rotary could help with funding and some volunteer labor to replace and upgrade them.  The project is in line with Rotary’s commitment to our communities, to literacy and health.

Using grant monies from North Coast Rotary Foundation and Rotary District 6600 Foundation, ALPL was able to procure larger more durable storybook frames.

In a letter to North Coast Rotary, ALPL Director William Rutger wrote, “The updated pedestal frames have been a much-needed addition to the Trail, and we are incredibly thankful for your partnership in making this possible.”

Blankets for Beds Thank You and Keep Them Coming!

Thank you to the many people who have donated blankets gently used or new – please keep them coming!  Just recently 75 Blankets were delivered to Neighborhood Alliance.  A continuing thank you to Ridge Cleaners who cleans, sanitizes and wraps each blanket, and to the French Creek Family Y for providing temporary storage!

For your convenience, The Avon Lake Public Library and Moe’s Southwest Grill in Avon along with other organizations have agreed to be collection points. And you can always drop blankets off at Ridge Cleaners.

Welcome New Member William Rutger

Membership Chairman Allen Porter inducted William Rutger, the new director of Avon Lake Public Library, into North Coast Rotary Club.  William grew up in the Sandusky area where his parents operate a native wildlife rescue facility.  He lives in Milan, and has three children.  William likes the idea that North Coast Rotary serves more than one community.

President Elect Pete Sandrev will serve as William’s mentor.
