During its summer meetings, North Coast Rotary proudly honored a group of exceptional students whose leadership, compassion, and community engagement reflect Rotary’s enduring motto: Service Above Self. Scholarship Awardees each received $1000, were recognized during their school’s awards night and joined a North Coast Rotary meeting when they could!

  • Interact Scholarship – Noah Adkins, Brookside High School
  • Service Above Self Scholarship  – Arushi Phukan, Brookside High School

Alexander Hick, Brookside High School, also joined us to share his experiences from a Rotary funded Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar.

Scholarship Awardees

Scholarship awardees from Avon High School, Avon Lake High School and Brookside High School joined our June rotary meeting. We heard highlights of each awardee’s achievements and each awardee spoke about their college plans. 

Lincoln Barnhart from Brookside High School was awarded the Service Above Self scholarship selected from students participating in the Rotary youth program Interact.  Zuriah Radeff-Koonce a Brookside High School senior was awarded a Service Above Self scholarship.  

Avon Lake senior, Mary Bigenho was awarded two scholarships, one funded by the Weems family and a Service Above Self Bon Russell Memorial Scholarship.  

Avon High School Principal Kristina Buller introduced Ishani Kishorepuria who was awarded the Jane Kuzman Memorial Scholarship for Service Above Self.  

With donations and revenue from fundraisers, North Coast Rotary (formerly Avon/ Avon Lake Rotary) has awarded scholarships to graduating seniors for decades.  The scholarship amount began at $500 each, increased in 2009 to $750 each and increased to $1000 each since 2012.  Rotarian Gina Eschke coordinates the program.

Graduates from Avon, Avon Lake and Brookside High Schools who were each awarded North Coast Rotary $1000 Service Above Self scholarships, met with Rotarians to thank them at a recent Rotary meeting.  Awardees are:  Amelia Tomak, Avon – Jane R. Kuzman Memorial Scholarship; Ellamarie Green, Avon Lake – Bon R. Russell Memorial Scholarship; Mikhail Pyltsov, Avon Lake – Marilyn Weems Memorial Scholarship; Robert DeLuca, Brookside, awarded the Service Above Self Scholarship and Alexandra Rion, Brookside Interact Scholarship.  Congratulations and best wishes in their college endeavors!

Great Pizza Bake-Off Tonight!

Enjoy sampling pizza, voting for your favorites, and participating in a few raffles tonight from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Avon Lake High School commons. A big thanks to our participating pizzerias: Marcos Pizza (Avon), Domino’s Pizza (Avon Lake), Romeo’s Pizza (Avon Lake), Pizza Hut (Avon Lake) and our newest area pizzeria Old School. Expect some surprises with the traditional and specialty pizzas they offer! Raffle prizes include, jewelry, autographed football, autographed cap, Red Tail golf for four, and Main Event games package. Hope to see you there!

Scholarship Awardees Brookside High School

North Coast Rotary Foundation is pleased to award scholarships to three graduating Brookside High School seniors, who were the top-qualifiers among a number of applicants. 

Natalie Baughman is awarded the Service Above Self Scholarship and Jennie Phan is awarded the North Coast Rotary Interact Scholarship.  Connor Fields is awarded the North Coast Rotary Brookside STRIVE Scholarship.

Natalie and Jennie presented well-written essays describing their college plans, career goals, scholastic performance and volunteer service.  Jennie also highlighted her 4 years of successful participation in Rotary’s Youth Program, Interact.  

Connor was jointly selected by the STRIVE Coordinator and Brookside’s Guidance Office upon submission of his essay.  Connor is recognized for his increasing commitment to furthering his education and his active participation in the Brookside Rotary STRIVE Program. 

Congratulations to Natalie, Jennie, Connor and all 2020 high school graduates!

Avon Pizza Fundraiser success!

North Coast Rotary thanks the over 400 guests who joined us for the 3rd annual Great Pizza Bake-off at Avon High School on Thursday February 8th.   Another great event with exceptional pizza to sample, ice cream from Mitchell’s, and cookies from Sprenger.

The Bake-Off was followed by the well-attended Fusion Concert!

Bake-Off guests voted for their favorite pizzas in a variety of categories, and the winners were:

Thank you to all of our supportive Pizzerias, to Avon High School, especially the Evening’s Emcee Rob Woods, to Assistant Superintendent Ben Hodge, to Sprenger Health Care for providing the delicious dessert cookies, to Mitchell’s ice cream and to the North Coast Interact Club who served drinks and desserts, and helped youngsters with Putting-Out-Polio.
