Silver Citation North Coast Rotary
Under the leadership of President Joe Matuscak, Vice President Doug Maurer and with support from the board and every club member, our club has earned the Rotary Citation, the most significant award a Rotary club can achieve, for 2019-20. During a year that was challenging for many Rotarians around the world, Rotary International President Maloney recognized that our club demonstrated a commitment to achieve its goals, in service to the community, region and world.
Literacy in Ohio
In September and October, Rotarians and guests heard from interesting Speakers focused on children’s and adult literacy. Karla Gregory-Martin, Senior Vice President of Workforce Education and ASPIRE Director Jeremy at EGCC addressed adult literacy and ongoing job readiness programs. Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine spoke to us about efforts to improve children’s literacy including the state’s support of the Imagination Libraries.
Last week, we heard from Mary Murphy, Director of ASPIRE at Lorain County Community College. She described the issues specific to our area, available programs and successes and challenges. Rotarians look forward to collaborating if possible, to facilitate the programs’ success.
We Make a Difference~
In September, we received a certificate of appreciation from CRS, Community Resource Services (serving Avon and Avon Lake) and “thanks” from the Brookside Schools for our boxes and boxes of school supply donations for students in need – this initiative was in collaboration with New WestSiders and Avon Lake Kiwanis.

We also received a Thank You letter from Blessing House (a children’s crisis care center) for our financial contributions to their capital campaign of $1000, when leveraged with matching donations.
Rotary Gets Involved!
