North Coast Rotary joined the many community organizations and businesses at the annual Avon Family Health and Safety Day. In addition to the granola bars and healthy treats, the club gave away books for parents and children explaining the 4-Way Test, a simple decision-making tool and ethical yardstick.
Jesse Ruben wrote a song, “We Can” which came to the attention of a school teacher in Canada. The teacher created a project using the lyrics. Jesse Ruben’s song inspired this project-based learning initiative where teachers connect students of all ages to the difference they can make in their lives, their communities and the world. North Coast Rotary and Rotary Clubs from Amherst, Vermilion and Oberlin offered the program to their respective school districts, culminating in Jesse Ruben’s visit with students in mid-May. Students and teachers participated by sharing their “I can” goals for themselves, the community and the world. All enjoyed the music as well as Jesse’s uplifting and positive messages, and school officials look forward to continuing the program next year.
